A Little Boys Amazing Journey & A families balance between... QUALITY & QUANTITY...
So TRUE....
Don't think of organ donation as giving up part of yourself to keep a total stranger alive. It's really a total stranger giving up almost all of themselves to keep part of you alive. ~Author Unknown

Wednesday Night...
Our BRAT diet didn't go as well as planned. Devin is having diarrhea again!! and this evening he is having some belly pain and abdominal distention :(
So the time has come to mix my nursing skills and mommy skills all in one... We NEED a plan as we head into Memorial Day Weekend!!! I am hoping to have one in the morning. Tonight I discussed with Dr.K my concerns
- the diarrhea is back ????
- he has a little tiny IV in because it's all they could get in... 5 sticks on Saturday and 6 on Monday and all we have is a little IV working on barrowed time.. Tomorrow they will place a more permanent line under sedation before it's 3am on Memorial Day weekend and the residents are poking him for an IV.. I am done holding him down well we try to find veins that aren't their... DONE!!!
- colonoscopy or no colonoscopy ???
- what are they hoping to achieve by going to DC and can that be achieved here in NJ.. Near home ??
- of course once all those things are worked out.. I will push to take him HOME!! With the proper line I can manage his care at home.
I believe we are heading towards putting him back on TPN and giving him complete bowel rest.. The thought literally makes me sick!! His poor liver.. For this to be done it will take meticulous management, giving him what he needs to maintain his weight and electrolytes while NOT tipping his liver over the edge.
Many have asked is this rejection or a GI bug... We are leaning toward a GI bug. It does not have characteristics of rejection but keep in mind viruses can lead to rejection.. The idea of giving the bowel a rest is the hope that it will recover fully.
