So TRUE....

Don't think of organ donation as giving up part of yourself to keep a total stranger alive. It's really a total stranger giving up almost all of themselves to keep part of you alive. ~Author Unknown

((( 5 ))) Years Post Transplant... 10 Years of Living!!

On Sunday, February 23 Devin will celebrate his 5 year transplant anniversary!! and boy will we celebrate aboard a Disney Magic!

5 years is a HUGE HUGE HUGE milestone... and we couldn't have done it without ALL of you!!! Your continued prayers and words of encouragement get us through the best of days and the worst of days!!

Their are so many people to Thank!  But for fear of missing someone I will say....

  • Thank you to ALL at NBI... who were the beginning part of his journey... For those who LOVED him from the beginning of life and rallied behind us during our darkest hours...
  • Thank you to ALL at RWJ... a team that jumped on board and gave him meticulous care!!  They literally kept him alive to make it to transplant!! and have seen us through some VERY hard ugly times...
  • Thank you to ALL at Georgetown... The place that was brutally honest with me!!! The words I will NEVER forget!! "Mrs. McQueen, you have been walking the tight rope of life with him for years... the rope is fraying and he is going to crash and burn...you have defied the odds"  If that statement doesn't say it all!!  Thats where our transplant journey began!!!  Yes, we both know a lot about sick kids.. but we know NOTHING about transplant and Georgetown walked us through some dark scary moments!!!
  • Thank you to Prompt Care (our home care company)  who MOVED mountains when mountains needed to be moved... their prompt delivery of meds and supplies allowed us to run a PICU out of our house for 5 years!!!
  • Thank you to ALL at school... they make it possible for his dream of going to school to come true... Thanks to all his early intervention therapist... His AMAZING speech therapist who NEVER gave up and has him eating like a CHAMP today!
  • Thank you to ALL my friends!! Your love and support is greatly appreciated!
To my entire family!!! You guys rock!!!! couldn't have done it without you!!!
Raymond and Caitlin... two great sibling! That have sacrificed more than you can imagine... NEVER complain... and LOVE him unconditionally!!!  I Love them!!!!

If we turn back time... December 2004 I fought to take Devin home to give him "NORMAL" in a FAR from normal situation..  I WAS TAKING HOME A TERMINALLY ILL CHILD... When people questioned my sanity... I stated, "I WILL DO END OF LIFE CARE... WE WILL GIVE HIM QUALITY OF LIFE over QUANTITY"  On December 19th, 2004 I took Devin home... Ran a Pediatric ICU out of my house, but I knew everyday he'd have some measure of QUALITY!!!!

This slide show will say it ALL!!  Thanks for being part of our journey!!!!

WOW!!!! Who knew where we would be in 2014. I know we had our doubts. Anyways, I am overjoyed to know that Devon is doing well. I remember how crazy everything was 9 years ago! You all are always in my thoughts. You have given Devon such a great life and he had done so well despite his medical issues. He looks great. Your kids are all grown up! Enjoy your upcoming trip to Disney. Maybe I could stop by one day if Im in the area. Until then take care and enjoy life!!!!
