A Little Boys Amazing Journey & A families balance between... QUALITY & QUANTITY...
So TRUE....
Don't think of organ donation as giving up part of yourself to keep a total stranger alive. It's really a total stranger giving up almost all of themselves to keep part of you alive. ~Author Unknown

Bronchoscopy
Bronchoscopy is done... They hit a few bumps in the road but thankfully where able to avoid keeping him intubated.. CLEARLY... something is wrong.. He has pneumonia... his left lung is completely affected... and the lower lobe of his right lung. Biopsies and numerous cultures where taken but unfortunately it will take 2 to 4 weeks to get final results therefore it will NOT offer us much help with this hospitalization.. They feel it can be as simple as Asthma or as complex as Graft vs Host, which is rejection.. :(
Right now our local team & transplant team are trying to come up with a plan of care...
** First option is 4 to 6 weeks of oral antibiotics... along with inhaled steriods! Problem, long term antibiotic use will cause diarrhea... diarrhea will make it difficult to maintain Devin's antirejection drug levels..
** Second option is placing a PICC line (long term IV) and giving 2 to 3 weeks of IV antibiotics... along with inhaled steriods! Problem, the risk of having a line in an immune suppressed child..
No easy answer... But I honestly feel more comfortable with the second option!! I am afraid he will get sick again on oral antibiotics... The IV antibiotics should work better and hopefully we'll have more answers before he gets sick again...
Unfortunately I don't have to much of a say!!!
But we've added one more doctor to our list... pulmonologist!!

Wow Colleen! Sry for you and him :( I have to say, medically I agree with your instincts on the second option. Of the 2 it is the 'lesser of two evils' Prayers are with you all. Hugs- Lorraine
One thing I am very thankful right now for you guys....is the worry free issue called SCHOOL! We're praying for Devin and for the team to make the best possible decisions.
