So TRUE....

Don't think of organ donation as giving up part of yourself to keep a total stranger alive. It's really a total stranger giving up almost all of themselves to keep part of you alive. ~Author Unknown

Happy 5th Birthday!!!!!

10/23/2008
Happy Birthday Devin.... today is a very special day for us.... Through our medical journey with Devin we were told more then once, Devin would not make it to five years of age.... Well hear we are today! Thank You God.. Devin has been through a tremendous amount in his five years.. Blood stream infections, both bacterial and fungal causing him to become very ill and lose central lines. Some years these episodes happened numerous times throughout the year. He has been a trooper through it all including bowel lengthening surgeries, colonoscopies, endoscopies, MRIs, CAT scans, xrays, line removals and reinsertions, and the list goes on.. On Devin's sickest day the one thing Devin never lost was his will to live.. He remained feisty, fresh, irritable, and sometimes just nasty. Doctors say this is a good thing..
Today, on this special day their are sooooo many people I would like to thank.. First is Raymond and Caitlin for being the best siblings Devin could ever ask for. Their patience and understanding through our ups and downs has been wonderful. Our family and friends for the continued support through the good and the bad.. To Dr. B our surgeon at Beth Israel in Newark, NJ... for NEVER giving up on Devin, for exploring every option we had to make things better.. To the nurses and doctors who have taken care of him so many times... We Thank You!! To the amazing GI Dr. K and nutritionist at Robert Wood Johnson, NJ... If it weren't for their meticulous care and endless devotion, Devin would not be here today.. You are wonderful... To all the staff at Robert Wood who have treated us like family.. Thank You!!!! To my home care company who never says... NO.. They make my life so much easier. To all who have taken care of Devin along the way... Boston Children's, who tried hard to get some bowel function. Columbia in NY, St. Joe's in NJ... The therapist OT and speech who have helped him overcome so many obsticles. The road has been long but everyone has left their mark... As we wait for Devin's gift of life we enjoy every day with him.. We thank the transplant center at Georgetown, Washington DC for the care they have given to Devin and the support while we wait for this gift. Thank You!!!!! and Happy Birthday Devin...... We all love you!!! xoxo
