Submitted by Colleen and Derrick on Wed, 10/21/2009 - 8:49pm.Home!!!! Safe and Sound!! Dev, is loving life.. He is relaxing in his bed as I plow through piles of mail and stuff from the hospital.... He took a nice hot bath and now snug as a bug in bed... I'm next!!
Oh Our Bags Are Packed...
Submitted by Colleen and Derrick on Wed, 10/21/2009 - 8:24am.But I am not ready to go!! How can I go home and live a "NORMAL" life again. My anxiety level is beyond what you can imagine! I am trying so hard to figure out "WHY"... why did he get so sick so fast... In 4 to 6 weeks they will do a colonoscopy to look at the bowel and see what if any damage was done.
Please keep praying for his health and my strength!! I am exhausted and scared all in one!!
Finally Sunny In DC...
Submitted by Colleen and Derrick on Mon, 10/19/2009 - 2:29pm.We had a good night health wise. But emotionally Devin is so sad!! He just wants to go home. The good news is... they are talking about Wednesday or Thursday. Just in time for his birthday Friday. This is truly a miracle!! Even the doctors and nurse here can't believe it. They thought for sure this battle would last 6 to 7 weeks.. Dr. L said she can't believe 10 days and this is where we are at. I bumped into one of the transplant surgeons today and he asked how everything was going and when I said he would probably go home this week he looked shocked!! Thank God for this Miracle...
So to help time pass the child life coordinator is planning a birthday party on Wednesday. She has teamed up with the starlight people from NY.. to add a little NY touch!!!! Bet you can all guess what that might be....
A New Day...
Submitted by Colleen and Derrick on Sun, 10/18/2009 - 4:56pm.We were moved out of the ICU and over to the Transplant Unit.. Devin is doing very well. I don't believe he feels great because he is crankier then usual.. and very emotional.. I think he is confused! He does not know why he is here, how he got here, and why he has to stay.. He desperately wants to go home.. Thank God for good drugs.. that allow children to forget these horrible experiences!!
We are off all antibiotics, antivirals, and antifungals. We are back on all our home meds and advancing feeds via his feeding tube slowly, but steadily! He is eating small amounts by mouth. He is off oxygen while he is awake but still needs a little while sleeping. His liver and kidney number are looking good.. We put him in a wagon today and pulled him around the unit just to give him a change. Tomorrow we are hoping to get him to walk. He is very weak and tired.
We watched our favorite hospital movie today... Alvin and The Chipmunks Christmas movie.. After all Santa is watching!!!
