So TRUE....

Don't think of organ donation as giving up part of yourself to keep a total stranger alive. It's really a total stranger giving up almost all of themselves to keep part of you alive. ~Author Unknown

1st Night.....

So far... so good... we survived the first night.. Devin slept great, all his meds were given on time, and his feeds went well. We've started today off good... all 14 of his 8am meds were given on time and his lads were drawn and delivered to Georgetown by 8:30am...

We are hoping to enjoy some fresh air today...

Tomorrow is the test... I am planning on sneaking back to NY to see Raymond and Caitlin... It has been so hard being away from them... I miss them.. Tomorrow Raymond will play in his first high school baseball game.. I will only be gone for the day... It's all on Derrick!!

THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!!!

I can not Thank Everyone!! enough for all that you have done over the last four weeks.... The out pouring of support has been tremendous... I can not possiblely thank each person individually, but I need you all to know that nothing went unnoticed... The prayers, the kind words, cards, gifts sent to Devin, survival packages for Derrick and I, the food delivered to the hospital for us, the basket and cupcakes sent to the nurses, the food delivered to the apartment, the home cooked meals sent down to us.... the list goes on!!!
To those of you at home who have helped out with Raymond and Caitlin... Thank you!!!
My family who have gone above and beyond... Thank You!!! Luv Ya All!!!

OUR EXPERIENCE.... we came here a month ago not expecting to get transplanted because we were second in line.... After many hours of waiting this transplant journey began... We met a great group of caring people... from the nurses who admitted us and waited right along side of us for "the word".. to the resident who came every 15 minutes to tell us "we know nothing yet"... to the surgeon who delivered the final word... these people were wonderful... To the SURGICAL TEAM at Georgetown, the GI TEAM, the PICU TEAM, the PICU NURSES, the TRANSPLANT UNIT STAFF, the TRANSPLANT NP, PRE and POST COORDINATORS, and the TRANSPLANT UNIT NURSES...... This team was amazing!!! To all but a few we came here as complete strangers... In we came.. with TV camera's and all... Word had spread "mom is a nurse and dad is a doctor"... every nurses worst nightmare... But they welcomed us and made us feel very at ease.. Devin received wonderful medical care... Derrick and I received the emotional support we needed during this difficult time... and great transplant teaching..... THANKS TO EVERYONE AT GEORGETOWN..... You are an amazing group of people.....
